Motion graphics are one of the top seven types of design in marketing that uses text, graphics, colour, and movement to create visual video content.

It’s often used for logo animations, product animation videos, and infographic videos.

Motion graphics and animation are big differences

Some people might say that motion graphics are animated graphic design, and they are not wrong at all. Motion graphics are a type of animation. Meanwhile, animation is an umbrella term for the whole field of moving imagery, including everything from cartoons to claymation.

In this case, motion graphics are used to show the movement.

Why are they effective?

Can be easily understand and shareable

According to research conducted by MIT neuroscientists, our brains process visual information very fast — about 13 milliseconds. Motion graphic videos are short and get straight to the point. It packs all the important information in just a minute. This allows your target market to easily understand and share it with families, and friends who they feel are interested in the product or service in the video.

They work faster and cost-effective

Motion graphics cut down costs considerably. It cuts out the expense of having someone to explain something that a few graphics can easily do. However, live-action video production is quite expensive and requires a location or studio and an entire crew. On the other hand, motion graphics can be done on a computer and takes less time to complete.

Remember when the Melbourne Metro wanted to run an ad campaign for safety around trains? They could invest in posters, and hire a few local actors to perform safety scenes. Instead, they decided to try out a motion design animation with an earworm of a song. It went viral with 210 million viewers.

Dumb Ways to Die

This is a good way to use Motion Graphics to explain a concept

They are colorful

Colours play a huge role in grabbing the audience’s attention. When motion graphic videos are opening on any social media site such as Facebook, the ads are auto-played but default set to mute. The voiceover of the video is not much focused on. If the content catches the audience’s eyes then the voice-over is listened to. Therefore, the content should be non-verbal information and catchy enough to catch audiences in the first second. If you add too much to the video, the video becomes more complicated. It may be entertaining but misses the whole point of the marketing.

This Spotify video is a good example of non-verbal video content. Instead of explaining how their product works, they chose to take the opportunity to explain how their product is personalized just for you.
